About the Journal

Rebeca – Revista Brasileira de Estudos de Cinema e Audiovisual is an Open Access scientific journal, published by the Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos de Cinema e Audiovisual (Socine). The journal adopts the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license and does not charge submission fees or article processing charges.

The journal accepts continuous submissions of original and unpublished contributions for the following sections: open-topic articles, thematic dossier articles, translations into Portuguese of texts originally published in foreign languages, interviews, book reviews, film criticism, textual and visual essays, and other formats of intellectual and creative production related to the fields of cinema and audiovisual studies.

History and Periodicity

Between 2012 and 2025, Rebeca published one annual volume organized into two semiannual issues, corresponding to the periods from January to June and from July to December.

Starting in 2026, each annual volume is structured into three regular issues:

• Issue 1 (Continuous Publication): adopts a Rolling Release model, bringing together original open-topic articles as well as contributions from other sections also devoted to open themes. Articles are published immediately after acceptance and completion of the editorial process, ensuring agility in scholarly communication.
• Issues 2 and 3: dedicated to Thematic Dossiers, organized through specific public calls for papers with their own submission and publication schedule. Each dossier includes original articles directly related to the proposed theme, as well as related contributions in other sections of the journal.
