In search of an authority
Film criticism and its current imperatives

With this article, we intend to shed light on the current imperatives that surround the exercise of film criticism, shaped and reconfigured from the demands and transformations arising from the digital emergency and from the flows of online communication. We start from the assumptions that see the growing search by critics for a lost or shaken authority in recent years, as formulated by Mattias Frey (2015). We follow methodological assumptions based on the Field Theory, by Pierre Bourdieu (2007; 1996a; 1996b), paying attention to the need for a sociological approach in the investigation of film criticism, while mapping this practice in the current Brazilian online scene.
