This article examines the historical and contemporary transformations of the circulation and diffusion of Brazilian audiovisual production within the Latin American space, addressing the structural asymmetries that define its relationship with the hegemonies of the Global North. First, it revisits the trajectory of film distribution and exhibition, highlighting the centrality of the Hollywood majors and the resulting market concentration that marginalizes Latin American cinemas. It then discusses the emergence of new conceptual frameworks (circulation and diffusion of audiovisuals) as attempts to transcend a purely market-oriented logic and to emphasize the cultural, social, and political practices of mediation. The study also explores the impacts of global streaming platforms, which reinforce inequalities in access and visibility while simultaneously opening up spaces for new audiences and new diffusion formats. Special attention is given to alternative circuits, film festivals, public policies, and independent initiatives that strive to affirm cultural sovereignty and to broaden diversity within the region. The article argues that circulation should be understood as a strategic field, one shaped by the tensions between global concentration and local practices of resistance. Finally, it suggests that the democratization of audiovisual diffusion in Brazil and Latin America depends not only on state regulation and regional cooperation but also on the adoption of emerging technologies capable of challenging hegemonic models.
