Towards a decolonization of the cinematographic image

In this interview, we talked to Brazilian filmmakers Clara Anastácia, Luis Gomes and Gabriela Gaia Meirelles to reflect on the (de)colonization of the cinematographic image. We sought to analyze how the coloniality of power permeates not only Brazilian society, but also, more specifically, the works and structures of the audiovisual field in the country. To do so, we analyzed the films Pinho Sol (2020), Linhas (2022) and Escasso (2022), created by these filmmakers, from which it was possible to observe propositions for a decolonization of the cinematographic image.
