Abstract

In the context of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Iracema - uma transa amazônica, the interview invites filmmaker Jorge Bodanzky to revisit his long and productive career. Bodanzky returns here to the recurring themes that run through his work – activism, the borders between documentary and fiction, censorship, the military dictatorship, environmental issues and the relationship with the Amazon. But he also discusses the transformations of cinema in the technological dimension, in the circulation of works and in their articulation with social organization. The interview, therefore, offers a set of memories and reflections on national cinema, which helps us understand both its history and its contemporary challenges.
